Highland Beekeeping Experience

£125.00Price

Join Colin for an unforgettable beekeeping experience on one of our isolated Highland apiaries, where you'll delve into the captivating world of these remarkable pollinators.

This immersive two-hour experience will give you an insight into what it's like to be a beekeeper, why bees are so important, and why they need to be looked after. You'll also get up close to the bees, look for the queen, learn about how they live and go about their industrious tasks.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY:

Your two-hour beekeeping experience will be begin with a quick introduction, including some details on keeping you safe around the apiary. There'll be short demonstration of the equipment and tools you'll be using, a few words on what to expect during the beehive inspections, and then you'll put on your bee suit (which is provided).

We strongly advise that you bring a pair of Wellington boots, or strong, sturdy, high-ankle walking boots to prevent bees stinging your ankles.

Once you're all suited and booted we'll walk through the woods to the apiary, which is surrounded by natural wild heather, where we'll open up and inspect several of the established hives. You'll handle some frames as Colin shows you how to check the health of the hive, look for the queen, see the baby bees in various stages of growth, the different types of pollen being stored, and of course, the nectar and honey.

ENJOY YOUR EXPERIENCE:

We want you to have an amazing time with Colin and the bees, so feel free to take as many photos as you want, and don't be afraid to ask questions. There's no reason to be nervous of the bees, but if you do feel anxious, let Colin know.

GIFT VOUCHERS:

  • Our Highland Beekeeping Experience is available on selected dates from early May until late September. Typically, dates are available Monday through Sunday, although certain dates may not be available.

We recommend that you book at least one month in advance to ensure your selected date is available. All bookings are subject to availability.

Due to the changeable Highland weather, bookings may be subject to change or cancellation at short notice (we can't open hives if it's too windy, raining, or too cold). Therefore, it's advisable to have some flexibility with dates, perhaps being available the day before or day after just in case bad weather prevents your experience.

Please allow 2 hours for the full experience.
