How to work a Canal Staircase Lock as we visit Chester by Narrowboat.

We visit Chester on the Shropshire Union Canal by narrowboat and explain how to work a canal staircase lock. We need to climb out of the city using the Northgate Locks, a three-rise staircase lock raising us over 32 feet from Telford's Warehouse at Tower Wharf to the city centre. Colin uncovers the story of the collapsing water tower, the lock-keeper's cottage with an unusual sewerage system, and a rare lengthsman's hovel by the cricket pitch.
